Several years ago, I was 36 years old tired, defeated just trying to maintain. Kids, wife business etc. A doctor asked me about my performance. Notably I was not performing in life like I used too. Mentally, I just wasn’t the same and accepted it as apart of aging. He clarified and said I mean how is your sexual performance.
I wasn’t sure how that mattered…
I instantly got defensive as he seemingly questioned my manhood.
I responded “thankfully good to go or I would be a complete wreck” I never thought about it til then, I then realized how important it was to me.
He explained to me that most men approaching their 40’s start to notice changes.
I arrogantly said not happening to me but the statistics he gave me are permanently etched in my brain. I started to geek out on the topic, joined a Men’s group mainly focused on marriage & business.
I posed this question to the group members individually to keep their responses discreet. 93% of the members over 30 noted some changes erectile performance in comparison to their younger selves. Over 50% were experiencing definitive ED symptoms.
I wondered if there was a correlation between this and the mental mindset shift men in their 30’s & 40’s experience.
The suicide rates among men 35-45 is alarming, I am not claiming sexual performance to be the cause. But if 4 out of 10 men are experiencing ED symptoms (Canadian doctors from get maple virtual care blog) it has to take a toll on mental mindset.
In our 30’s many men seek sedation in some form and waive our white flags submitting to the harsh realities of life/aging. I thought maybe this is why we compensate with a mid life crisis or delve deeper into deviant fantasies. Are we blaming porn for the disconnect or is porn really the medication to maintain some feeling of our manhood

Out of concern for my not so distant future, I started looking at what’s available for support.
